Dr. Amy McElhinney is this year’s Faculty Lecture speaker, which will be held on Wednesday, February 12 at 7 p.m. in Presser Recital Hall. Dr. McElhinney is the Charles S. Gallaher, M.D. Endowed Chair in Biology at the University of Mount Union. She is an Associate Professor of Biological & Environmental Sciences and the Huston-Brumbaugh Sustainability Coordinator. McElhinney has been a fellow of the National Science Foundation ADVANCE ASCEND program since 2019 and was selected as a participant in the 2024 PKAL STEM leadership Institute. She received Mount Union’s 2023 Jane Weston Chapman Award and has been a member of the Mount Union faculty since 2011.

Dr. Sandra Blakely will present the Slater Lecture on March 4, 2025, at 7 p.m. in the Presser Recital Hall of Cope Music Hall. Dr. Blakely earned a PhD in Classics and Anthropology from the University of Southern California. Her interdisciplinary research delves into anthropology, history, and religion, focusing on fragmentary sources and secret rites. Dr. Blakely's current projects include employing social network analysis and geographic information systems to study the Great Gods of Samothrace and examining ancient game dynamics in understanding social dynamics and educational methods. Recently she, along with colleagues started a project, Sailing with the Gods, an interactive, 3-D game in which players pursue kleos in a simulation of the ancient Mediterranean seascape.

The University of Mount Union is excited to announce that its annual Schooler Lecture will feature Dawn Staley, head coach of the University of South Carolina Women’s Basketball Team and a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, taking place on the Mount Union campus Wednesday, April 23 at 7 p.m.
The Annual Schooler Lecture Series at Mount Union was established in 1988 with grant funding from the Schooler Family Foundation. This longstanding series brings notable public figures to Alliance to share impactful stories with the community at large. Recent lecturers have included Erin Brockovich, Margaret Atwood and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
